Raktabeeja obtained a boon from Brahma that if a drop of blood fell on the ground it would become seed and sprout to duplicate himself.No one was able to defeat him. thy could not strike him at all so they went directly to the gods and asked for help from shiva. Kali drank the blood before it touched the ground and killed him after he was drained of blood.
