Hey guys! My name is Savannah, I am a Senior PR major at the University of Oklahoma with a concentration in pre-law and a minor in History! I am taking a gap year in order to prepare for law school and hopefully enroll in the fall of 2022. I don't necessarily have a dream job, but I've wanted to go into law since I was 5 years old and I saw a lawyer on a TV show, and for some reason that called me to the profession.
A weird fact about me is I've moved around a lot, I was born in Delaware, then moved to Georgia in Elementary school. In Middle School, I moved to Shanghai China, and believe me growing up in a country where no one understands you is a bit frustrating, especially when middle school is already as difficult as it is. Then in High School, I moved to Kansas, and that is why I am currently at the University of Oklahoma today!
I will say I absolutely hate sad movies or dramatic movies, but for some reason, I watched the movie "Pride and Prejudice," four times over break. I've been rewatching 30 Rock, Brooklyn 99, and Parks and Recreation right now and those shows cannot get old! If anyone has any show or movie recommendations, do not hesitate to comment because I am looking to start a new obsession.
I am a really big fan of classic rock music and listen to a lot of music from the 70s. The reason being that my grandpas were a big part of my discovering music, one of my grandpas gave me a bunch of his records that I still have and listen to. My other grandpa gave me CDs he had that he didn't need anymore and so my music collection is hefty thanks to them. My all-time favorite hype song is I'm Still Standing by Elton John. I also have really gotten into listening to rock covers of popular songs on Spotify. One that has been popularized by TikTok is the Heart Of Glass cover by Miley Cyrus and if you have not heard her cover of Zombie by the Cranberries I highly suggest listening!
On-campus I am really involved with University Sing and CAC Scandals I have directed, written and been in 6 different shows. I have been on the executive committee now for 2 events and this is my last semester getting to be a part of Scandals as a performance committee member. (Basically, I get to sing and act and dance, as well as help, acts as an executive resource which is very fun!)
As of right now, I am trying to keep myself busy by doing crafts and things like that. I just taught myself to crochet, and I am learning to make earrings (poorly), but it is giving me something to do. :) Other than that I am ready to get into the semester and start things back up again!
Thanks for reading about me hehe :)
Hello Savannah, I’m sure it was probably difficult moving around while growing up, but I still think that it is really cool that you got to experience so many different cool places. I also enjoy listen to some older music, but I enjoyed 90’s alternative rock more specifically because that is all my dad ever listens to. I also love being able to be creative and do crafts in my free time and I wish I had more free time. I hope this semester treats you well and good luck in the future!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! I'm sure it was hard moving to different places. Where in Georgia are you from? I'm from Chattanooga, Tennessee which is right by the border of Georgia! Also love University Sing and Scandals! You might know my roommate Louisa! I hope you enjoy this class and have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHey Savannah! One of my roommates was also born in Delaware, but he moved to Texas and stayed there after that, so definitely not as many moves as you! I also detest sad movies; my favorites are action movies like any of the Marvel films - they might be predictable but they never let you down! I have never been part of USing or Scandals, but I know it takes a lot of work, so I applaud that!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! I can relate to the constant moving as a child, as I have experienced that too – I also lived in Georgia for a few years! I find it so amazing that you’ve been able to direct, write, and participate in 6 different shows – that is incredible! I hope that you have been able to make some cool things out of crocheting! I hope you have a good spring semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! That's so cool that you got to experience living in a different country. I bet it was frustrating being so young and not being understood. That is still probably an amazing experience, what was your favorite part? Also, it is so cool that you make earrings. You should definitely look into selling them! Good luck in your future, you will do great things!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a cool combination of academic programs, Savannah! All that knowledge coming from different directions will be such a big plus when you go to law school. You are lucky that a TV show gave you such a practical career goal! My favorite shows when I was little were Star Trek (original series!) and the Twilight Zone, which are not exactly good career preparation. Although I guess they do help me out in this career teaching online story courses!
ReplyDeleteTV shows: my husband and I sometimes have to search around to find something we both like... and we ended up watching Poldark! If you liked Pride and Prejudice, you might like Poldark! Wikipedia: Poldark. Wikipedia: Poldark
And that is so cool about making earrings! Jewelry is such a great art form because you get to wear it. Art that goes with you! I always feel sorry for art that has to sit on the walls of a museum: it's so much better when art can get out and about in the world, which is exactly what jewelry can do. :-)
Very nice to meet you, Savannah! Your aspiration of becoming a lawyer is very inspiring! I hope all things go well when you attend law school. Parks and Recreation is one of my favorite shows ever, all of the characters are so wholesome and amazing! I also taught myself to crochet and have started a variety of projects over the course of the pandemic! You sound like a very fun person and I look forward to getting to know you more through your blog!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! I love that you watched Pride and Prejudice over break!! I love Jane Austen a ton, and P&P is my favorite of hers. If you want more regency, Bridgerton is a great series (though, a ton of sex scenes though so if you're not into that proceed with caution) that just came out on Netflix on Christmas, and Sanditon is a recent adaptation of Jane Austen's final unfinished novel that aired on PBS Masterpiece in early 2020. There's also another popular version of P&P that is a limited series by BBC (because I am assuming you watched the 2005 movie with Keira Knightley?), and you could watch it on HBO Max. I think it is so cool that you crochet! I have always wanted to learn but have never sat around to do it. Have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! I am also a senior and thinking about Law school but I need a break too before I go so I completely understand. I highly enjoy the movie Pride and Prejudice and was pretty sad when they took it off of Netflix. I also was a lover of University Sing and head director last year for my sorority, right now I am participating in Scandals. Best of Luck in the future!
ReplyDeleteHello Savannah! I was born and raised in Oklahoma so I have always been curious what moving to different states would be like. So I can't even begin to imagine what it was like moving to China! Did you travel a lot because of your parents' jobs, or simply for the experiences? Congratulations on being a senior this year and also I hope that law school and being a lawyer is everything you hope for it to be!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! I have not moved around but I do love traveling. I absolutely LOVE Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Rec, they are my comfort shows. I love older music as well and have been a big fan of Elton John for a while. I love to pick up new hobbies as well and I totally understand there is a bit of a learning curve!
ReplyDeleteHey Savannah, I myself have moved a lot throughout my childhood and I totally understand how frustrated it can be when people around you don't understand you, but you understand them to an extend. I also that is great you have a direction of what you want to be when you were young. I hope that you will be well prepare and ready for law school. Good luck
ReplyDeleteHey Savannah!
ReplyDeleteI am a senior majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. Honestly taking a gap year sounds so amazing right now! I know the only reason you are doing that is so you can prepare for law school. I hope you get in! You moved around quite a bit. It must have been so nice living in a different country. I wish I could. I like doing arts and crafts as well. I really like to draw and paint, but I do not have that much time to do so. I might start back up again in the summer, but I am also taking classes. We will have to see.
Hi Savannah!
ReplyDeleteWow moving around so many places must have been insane but probably so much fun as well. I have lived in Texas my whole life so I don't really know what that is like. But living in China must have been one great experience! I love that you are so involved on campus. I have never been a part of scandals but I always love to watch the girls in. my sorority practice! I hope you have a great rest of your semester!
Hi Savannah!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing how you are preparing for law school! Wishing you the best! I have always wanted to learn how to crochet but never had the change to learn. I try to be crafty but I honestly am not very good at it! I have wanted to start watching Parks and Recreation for the longest time but just made it through 2 episodes and then stopped watching because I didn’t have the change to watch the rest. I definitely need to watch!
Hey Savannah!
ReplyDeleteI am also pre-law and super excited for law school! I had a similar experience watching lawyers on TV and really being drawn to that profession. Its really cool that you went to Middle school in China. I bet that really expanded your world-view and gave you some great experiences. You seem really cool and I hope the rest of your semester goes well!
Hey Savannah! I love your jacket in the first picture, it is super cute. Going to be very difficult but very fun I bet! Good luck with that, and I hope you enjoy law school. Also, it is so cool that you spent time in China. I feel you, that it was difficult, but did you still enjoy it a little? Your hobbies sound fun to! I just learned out to knit over the past year too! It's nice to meet you.
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! What a fantastic coat that you are wearing in your photo! I took a gap year in between high school and college just to be able to travel and get some life experience under my belt. Honestly, it was phenomenal. I plan on taking another gap year between college and med school to do more travelling and have other experiences that simply aren't possible when in a completely student academic setting!
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah! It was nice to read your introduction. It sounds like we have similar tastes in TV shows because I also love Brooklyn 99 and Parks and Rec! I haven’t watched 30 Rock, though. If you’re in need of a show rec and haven’t seen it, I’m a big fan of New Girl, which is also a comedy on Netflix. I’ll definitely check out the Miley Cyrus cover, too, because I love rock music! I hope you’ve been having a nice semester and that your earring crafting is going better lol.
ReplyDeleteHey Savannah! I'm a fellow soon-to-be-Gaylord-graduate! I hope you enjoy law school! I absolutely love Pride and Prejudice, so it was nice to see you mention that! I'm also obsessed with Parks and Rec and agree it never gets old. If you're still looking for something new to watch, I highly recommend Outlander. It is one of the best shows I've ever seen, and it's safe to say I'm obsessed with it (in the past year I've already watched it all the way through twice and am currently listening to the fifth book).
ReplyDeleteHi Savannah,
ReplyDeleteI have been kinda binge watching Brooklyn 99 recently it is such a funny show. I have also binge watched parks and rec like 2 times through. So cool that you want to go to law school and came to Oklahoma from a different state.
