Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part D

Tiny Tales from the Mahabharata by Laura Gibbs

Karna forgot the mantra, Arjuna struck him and killed him. Duryodhana realized that the war was done, and all was lost. Duryodhana battled with Bhima, he challenged him and Bhima shattered his thigh with a mace. This was Bhima fulfilling the vow that he made when Duryodhana taunted Draupadi by clapping his thigh. Duryodhana lay dying on the battlefield and cried to his son.

The pandavas declared victory. They all realized that their victory was thanks to Krishna and that he had saved them. The soldiers were fighting about who had won and so they asked the head that had watched the whole war, the head had said he had only seen Krishna as a warrior. Ashwatthama vowed he would kill the pandavas again, Duryodhana nodded saying to kill them if he could.

Ashwatthama killed five warriors sleeping together at the Pandavas camp. He brought their heads to his father proud of himself, he realized he had killed the five sons of Draupadi and not the Pandavas. He realized that the Pandavas had still lost everything because of this, and with that he died.

Kunti searched for her first born Karna, Arjuna did not realize he had killed his own brother. He promised five sons would survive this war and told her that, she was sad that he died.

The Pandavas climb the mountain, they seek to attain heaven so they fell off the mountain top. In order, they fell.
