Feedback Strategies

Feedback is something important that every person needs in order to succeed. This allows for growth and the ability to make your work better because a fresh set of eyes is looking upon it.

The first article I read was Be A Mirror this incorporates the growth mindset we talked about at the beginning of the class as well which was interesting to circle back to. This article lists 5 qualities to foster a growth mindset, those being: be specific, focus on what the reader is doing, focus on the process, make sure it can transfer, and take yourself out of the feedback. I think this is interesting to think about, being a mirror to stay focused on what is in front of you and not other things you can pull into the feedback. React directly based on what you are reading and go from there.

The second article I read is called How to Give Feedback Without Being a Jerk this article says that a feedback sandwich doesn't actually work as well as one thought it could. Which is interesting to know since I use that technique a lot in everyday life. This article focuses on constructive criticism, to explain why you are giving feedback. Take yourself off of a pedestal, you aren't better than them you are merely trying to help. Ask first if the person wants honest feedback. Have transparent dialogue and not a monologue. Put the feedback into action, and make sure that you are not faking it until you make it. This is interesting to me and I will definitely take note of that.

In my every day life it is my job to critique people and make sure I don't come off as if I am trying to act like I could do better than them, but I need to give honest feedback. This is a really good way of doing that in order to see results. When critiquing something people are very proud of you must tread lightly for sure.
